Gillentine's keynote topic is, "Hurricane Harvey: How social media helped Houston (and me) survive the storm."
Hurricane Harvey, which ravaged the Texas Gulf Coast in 2017, was the first major hurricane to unfold in real time on social media. Gillentine will share her Harvey story and explore the social media storm around this hurricane: How social media was used to share information, save lives and help Texas rebuild; and how her own social media community rallied around her family in the wake of a devastating disaster. Her session will include research on how people use social media differently during a disaster, plus takeaways on what everyone can do today to digitally prepare for the next catastrophe.
Join Drive West Communications at the Houston Social Media Day Conference on June 30, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., at Comcast Houston (8590 W. Tidwell Rd., Houston, TX 77040). You can see the full conference schedule here.
